Elisabeth R. Finch, a former writer for Grey’s Anatomy, has publicly expressed deep remorse for pretending to have cancer for years, following the release of the docuseries Anatomy of Lies on Peacock. Finch, who admitted to fabricating her illness in December 2022, took to social media to apologize, saying, "There is no excuse, no justification — nothing will ever make my lies to anyone okay." She acknowledged the trauma caused by her actions and emphasized her commitment to making amends.

Finch reflected on the damage done to her relationships, stating, "I trapped myself in the addiction of lies, betraying and traumatizing my closest family, friends, and colleagues." She admitted that earning back trust will take time and added, "I will continue to repair whatever damage I can and ensure I am not the worst things I've done."

In her statement, Finch also mentioned that she has been undergoing mental health treatment for nearly three years to address her issues. She concluded with an apology, acknowledging the inadequacy of words, but insisting, "'I'm sorry' feels like the smallest words compared to what I've done, yet they are the truest."

The docuseries features accounts from her former colleagues, including Andy Reaser, who recalled Finch's elaborate efforts to maintain the lie. He described her behavior as "performance art," mentioning how she would show up to work with a shaved head and take "puke breaks" to mimic chemotherapy.
