HYDERABAD:

The Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) has called for nominating former Sindh Chief Minister Arbab Ghulam Rahim in the FIR of October 18, 2007, Karsaz blast which had claimed lives of 180 people. The demand was made in a resolution passed at a seminar organised by the PPP's cultural wing at Hyderabad press club on Wednesday.

The resolution read that Rahim had predicted that the mammoth rally, which was arranged to welcome former Prime Minister and PPP's Chairperson Benazir Bhutto on her return from exile, will end by 12 midnight. The explosion later compelled the rally to end before reaching its destination.

The seminar resolution stated that judicial reforms and the upcoming constitutional amendment will be a victory for democracy. The seminar rejected the Central Development Working Party's (CDWP) decision to allow Cholistan Canal construction, deeming the decision unconstitutional. The seminar demanded that the 1991 Water Accord be implemented in letter and spirit and that all water-sharing controversies be taken to the Council of Common Interests (CCI) platform.

It was further reiterated that the construction of no new link canal can be accepted on the Indus River. The PPP Sindh's President Nisar Ahmed Khuhro, former senator Aajiz Dhamra and other leaders addressed the event. Meanwhile, the PPP's Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari is scheduled to address a public meeting in Hyderabad on October 18 to commemorate the Karsaz incident and to pay tribute to the martyrs and survivors of the blast.
