At least 10 travellers sustained serious injuries when a high-speed passenger bus overturned on Kahuta Road while attempting to avoid a motorcycle that had suddenly entered the roadway from a nearby petrol station. Rescue teams provided immediate medical assistance at the scene before transporting the injured to the hospital.
CCTV footage of the incident has also emerged. A spokesperson for Rescue 1122 reported that the accident occurred near the Dubairan stop on Kahuta Road. Following the report, emergency teams were dispatched to the scene, involving three ambulances and 10 rescue personnel.
According to sources, locals assisted in quickly evacuating passengers trapped inside the bus, moving them away from the vehicle due to a continuous fuel leak from the bus's tank, which posed a risk of further accidents.
The spokesperson noted that there were a total of 16 passengers on the bus; six were miraculously unharmed, while the other 10, including women, were injured.
Rescue personnel administered first aid on-site before transferring all injured individuals to the Kahuta Tehsil Headquarters Hospital. A traffic police spokesperson stated that additional wardens were sent to the scene immediately after the accident was reported, causing some disruption to traffic flow on the road.
Once the rescue operations were completed, heavy machinery was called in with the help of residents, and a crane was used to move the bus off the road, restoring normal traffic.
The police from Kallar Syedan station indicated that they have obtained CCTV footage of the accident for preliminary investigation. The footage, sourced from the local petrol station, clearly shows the high-speed bus approaching as two motorcycle riders exit the petrol station onto the main road. The bus driver, upon seeing the motorcycle, swerved to avoid a collision, causing the bus to overturn.
According to the police, the footage suggests negligence on the part of the motorcycle riders. If they had looked both ways before entering the main road, the accident might have been avoided. The police have registered a report of the incident and further investigations are ongoing. They have also seized the bus driver's driving license and other documents for examination.
