Law Minister Azam Nazeer Tarar on Tuesday criticised the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party for not presenting a single recommendation during seven meetings of the special committee on the proposed constitutional amendment.
In a statement on social media platform X, Tarar said those opposing the amendment had failed to point out any clause that undermines fundamental human rights, public interest, the constitution's spirit, or judicial independence.
“The issue of the 26th Constitutional Amendment is being viewed solely through the lens of partisan politics, while PTI did not submit a single suggestion or recommendation during seven meetings of the special committee,” Tarar said.
He further remarked that some people appear unwilling to ease the hardships of thousands of prisoners and restore the rightful status of Parliament in the democratic parliamentary system.
