Cassie, the 38-year-old singer, is reportedly planning a musical comeback after her ex-boyfriend and alleged abuser Sean "Diddy" Combs' recent arrest and imprisonment. According to a source, Cassie is considering releasing new music now that Diddy is behind bars and some of his associates are resigning. The source told DailyMail.com, "She couldn't have imagined her career would have been stalled in the way it was when her first album came out, but she has so many unreleased records that she wants to release if the timing and business is right."
Cassie's music career was stalled for over two decades due to her tumultuous relationship with Diddy, who is currently facing sex trafficking and racketeering charges. The singer accused Diddy of repeated physical abuse and rape in a $30 million lawsuit last November. Disturbing photographs from 2013, obtained by DailyMail.com, show Cassie with apparent bruises on her forehead and a black eye.
The source added that Cassie's collaborators have been informed of her plans, and royalty splits have been agreed upon. Cassie has recently registered a new song, "Midnight Hour," with Universal Music, and made amendments to a track titled "Into It" in May. Her inconsistent music releases in the past had raised concerns about her image, with Vibe deputy editor Clover Hope commenting that her obscurity was hurting her image.
Cassie's lawsuit against Diddy detailed allegations of physical abuse, rape, and forced sex with male sex workers. Combs settled the case a day after it was filed. In March, surveillance footage emerged showing Combs violently attacking Cassie at a hotel in 2016. Cassie addressed the video in a statement, saying, "Domestic Violence is the issue. It broke me down to someone I never thought I would become."
