Arabian low pressure system no long 'threat' to Pakistan's coast: PMD

The system is located 1,190 km southwest of Karachi and is expected to weaken later today.

A pressure system over the Arabian Sea has gradually shifted further west during the last ten hours.

According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), the system is currently located 1,190 km southwest of Karachi, 1,100 km southwest of Ormara, and 1,020 km south of Gwadar.

The weather system is situated 520 km southeast of Muscat, Oman, and 720 km east of Salalah, as reported by Express News.
Forecasts suggest that it will continue to move westward towards the Omani coastline and may weaken into a low-pressure system by this afternoon.

Winds around the system's centre are expected to reach speeds of up to 50 km/h by evening.

 

Fishermen in Balochistan have been advised to exercise caution and refrain from venturing into deep waters until conditions stabilise.

'Unlikely' to impact Pakistan coast

A few days ago, the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) had reported that a low-pressure weather system was developing in the Arabian Sea.

Initially, the PMD expressed concerns about the potential impact on coastal areas.

However, as the situation evolved, the meteorological department indicated that the system was unlikely to pose a threat to Pakistan's coastline.

The low-pressure area over the Southeast Arabian Sea had intensified into a well-marked low-pressure area (WML) and had moved westward.

This system was located near Latitude 17.0 N and Longitude 66.5 E, approximately 900 km south of Karachi.

The PMD noted that while the system had strengthened, it remained distant from the coastal regions of Pakistan.

Favourable environmental conditions were anticipated to facilitate further development of the system.

Meteorologists had predicted that the low-pressure area would likely concentrate into a depression by the following day, continuing its movement initially towards the west/northwest.

This indicated a potential change in the system's trajectory, but the PMD remained vigilant in its assessments.

The PMD's cyclone warning center in Karachi was actively monitoring the situation.

As of the latest updates, officials confirmed that no coastal areas in Pakistan were expected to be affected by this weather system.

The PMD advised the public to stay informed through official channels for any updates regarding changes in the weather patterns.
