JI's Hafiz Naeem rejects constitutional amendment

The JI leader called for an end to the government's manipulation of judicial appointments.

Hafiz Naeemur Rehman, the Amir of Jamaat-e-Islami Pakistan, has vehemently rejected the proposed constitutional amendment, labelling it entirely unacceptable.

He stated that while it is positive for foreign guests to visit Pakistan, any constitutional amendment introduced under this pretext would be condemnable, Express news reported.

He asserted that when the chief justice’s term ends, he should step down. The government appears to want to amend the constitution to appoint a Chief Justice of its choosing, which the Jamaat-e-Islami completely rejects.

Speaking at a press conference at Noor Haq Institute in Karachi, he expressed grave concern over the deteriorating conditions in the city, stating that its infrastructure is in ruins, with broken roads and a failing sewage system.

Referring to the electricity crisis, Hafiz Naeem denounced the presence of a mafia operating within K-Electric, which he claims benefits from government protection and is untouchable due to court stays.

Hafiz Naeem highlighted the rampant corruption in Sindh, claiming it is a systemic issue that remains unaddressed. "From top to bottom, there is nothing but corruption. The government's mismanagement has resulted in billions of rupees being lost due to the recent rains, and powers are not reaching the grassroots level," he stated.

He further accused the ruling party of manipulating recent by-elections, alleging that officials took ballot boxes to maintain control over Karachi's mayoral seat. Additionally, he praised the protesters in Rawalpindi who succeeded in getting the government to terminate contracts with five Independent Power Producers (IPPs).

In response to questions, Hafiz Naeem called for lifting restrictions on meetings with PTI founder and urged the party to delay its protests.

He also commented on the situation of Marang Baloch, stating that if she needed to go somewhere, she should be allowed to do so, urging transparency regarding the reasons for any restrictions placed on her.
