Gunfire targets closed Toronto Jewish school during Yom Kippur

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau expressed concern over the shooting and supported the affected families.

A Jewish girls' school in Toronto was targeted by gunfire early Saturday, marking the second shooting incident at the school this year.

No injuries were reported as the school was closed at the time, though a window was broken.

The shooting occurred around 4 a.m. on Saturday at Bais Chaya Mushka Girls Elementary School, coinciding with Yom Kippur, the holiest day in Judaism, according to Toronto Police Service Inspector Paul Krawczyk.

No injuries were reported as the school was empty, being closed for the Jewish High Holidays, Krawczyk stated.

In a press release, police mentioned that the suspects were in a vehicle when they fired at the building, and evidence of gunfire was found at the scene.

According to reports, this is the second incident of shooting at the same school following Israel's ongoing offensive in Gaza. The attackers fled the scene, and local police have yet to identify the suspects.

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau expressed his concern over the act of terrorism and extended his solidarity to the parents of the children attending the school.

“As we wait for more details, my heart goes out to the students, staff, and parents who must be terrified and hurting today,” Trudeau said on X. “Antisemitism is a disgusting and dangerous form of hate — and we won’t let it stand.”
