KARACHI:

Former president Dr Arif Alvi has said parliament has a mandate to amend the Constitution but emphasized that it must follow the right course.

Expressing his views during a meeting with office-bearers of Sindh High Court (SHC) Bar Association, the former president said whatever is happening with the judiciary is politically driven. He said after the Holy Quran and Hadiths, Constitution holds the highest importance, as Muslim law begins with the Holy Quran.

"How would we groom our children without the law and justice?" asked Alvi, adding 1.6 million educated youth left the country due to the absence of justice.

He said if change is inevitable in the judiciary, then start from lower courts. He claimed the government is avoiding showing the draft of the proposed constitutional amendment. Dr Alvi said the person-specific changes will never work.

He said no one knew about the Jinnah House before May 9.
