American singer-songwriter Ne-Yo has issued an apology after making an insensitive comment about sexual assault during his recent performance in Auckland, New Zealand. The 44-year-old artist, currently on his Champagne & Roses world tour, faced backlash after inviting a woman from the crowd on stage and declaring, "I was sexually assaulted and I liked it. I had a great time, and I’d do it again."

Ne-Yo’s comment came just weeks after Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs was arrested on charges of sex trafficking and racketeering, making the subject particularly sensitive. In response to the incident, Ne-Yo took to Instagram to express regret, stating, “In an attempt to be playful with my fans, I made an insensitive and irresponsible joke while on tour, and I’d like to truly apologize from the bottom of my heart.” He added, “There’s absolutely no place in this world for these types of tasteless jokes, and I unequivocally stand with all survivors.”

The controversy follows an earlier accusation from Ne-Yo’s ex-girlfriend, Sade Bagnerise, who had compared him to Diddy in a social media post. However, Ne-Yo has not been accused of any wrongdoing in connection with his relationship or any involvement with Diddy’s charges.

Ne-Yo concluded his apology by stating, "I take full accountability and promise to learn from this situation, grow from it, and do better in the future."
