A couple in Australia has been reunited with their long-lost wedding video after 57 years, thanks to a Facebook post. The footage, from their 1967 wedding in Scotland, resurfaced in the most unexpected way when a local shared a still from the video on social media, BBC Scotland reported.

Aileen and Bill Turnbull, who married in Aberdeen in 1967 before emigrating, never thought they’d see their wedding film again.

After watching the film for the second time—having only seen it once before—Mrs Turnbull told BBC Scotland News it was an “absolutely amazing” experience.

The Turnbulls, who tied the knot at Mastrick Church in Aberdeen in August 1967, had been filmed leaving the church using equipment borrowed from a colleague.

They later borrowed a projector to watch the footage, but when they returned it, the film was mistakenly left behind, and they couldn’t track it down.

The couple, who emigrated to Australia in 1981 and are now grandparents, thought the footage was lost forever.

Back in Aberdeen this April, Terry Cheyne was transferring his old cine films to DVD. Among the footage, he discovered wedding scenes he didn’t recognise.

He posted a still from the recording of the couple online, but it wasn’t until nearly six months later that Mrs Turnbull, scrolling through Facebook, was surprised to stumble upon the image.

A recent repost in another local group in the Mastrick area of Aberdeen caught the attention of 77-year-old Eileen Turnbull, who immediately recognised the wedding photo as her own.

Eileen, who now resides in Brisbane, Australia, was scrolling through Facebook when she stumbled upon the image. In disbelief, she turned to her husband Bill and said, "That's our wedding photo."

The Turnbulls said they had only watched their wedding video once before it was misplaced, left in a borrowed projector that was later returned to its owner without the film.
