After 28 years, govt school student tops matric exams

Public sector education makes triumphant return

A government school student has claimed the top spot in the matric science annual examinations for 2024, ending 28-year dominance by private institutions.

On Friday, The Board of Secondary Education Karachi (BSEK) announced the results for Secondary School Certificate (SSC) examination, marking a milestone for Hafiz Abdul Rafay Tariq, son of Tariq Mehboob, who studied from public sector education yet managed to secure the top position with an impressive 94.55% marks (1040/1100). The proud father is a mathematics teacher at Delhi Government Boys Secondary School where Rafay studied.

The triumph of Delhi Government Boys Secondary School Karimabad is significant, as it's the first time since 1996 that a government school has taken the top spot.

The second and third positions were claimed by students from private schools. Rumaissa Imran from Al-Khalil Model School in Malir secured the second position with 1,037 marks and 94.27%. Rukhsar from Little Folks School in North Nazimabad secured the third position with 1,025 marks and 93.18%.

Out of 163,012 registered candidates, 131,614 (81.24%) passed, with 23,943 obtaining an A1 grade and 45,357 securing an A grade.

Notably, female students excelled, with 63,767 passing and 15,616 achieving A1 grades. The results underscore the potential of government schools and highlight the dedication of teachers like Tariq Mehboob. Congratulations to Hafiz Abdul Rafi Tariq and the Delhi Government Boys School on this outstanding achievement!
