Tina Knowles, the mother of global superstars Beyoncé and Solange, shared insights into her parenting values during an interview for Glamour's 2024 Women of the Year issue.
The 70-year-old fashion designer, recognized alongside other notable mothers such as Travis Kelce’s mother, Donna Kelce, and Billie Eilish’s mother, Maggie Baird, emphasized the importance of teaching her daughters respect and humility.
Knowles, who also considers Kelly Rowland her "bonus daughter," spoke about the lessons she instilled in her children early on. "'You look people in the eye, say hello, don’t turn into a diva,'" she shared, explaining her approach to grounding them in their success.
She added that it was crucial for her daughters to understand they are not helpless, despite the overwhelming support they receive from others. "I don’t believe that that’s something that they just get, because everybody’s trying to handle everything for them and kissing their butts sometimes," Knowles said.
As well as being proud of their creative achievements, Tina revealed she is most fulfilled when her daughters’ actions have positive repercussions on the world. "After a while, you get kind of used to the big moments, but those kinds of moments are really, really different," she reflected.
In addition to being a mother, Tina Knowles is a grandmother to Beyoncé’s three children and Solange’s son, while also playing a grandmother figure to Rowland’s two sons.
