Kamala Harris criticized for $750 aid to Hurricane Helene victims as Trump raises millions

Kamala Harris faces backlash over $750 relief for Hurricane Helene victims, while Trump’s fundraiser raises millions.

Vice President Kamala Harris is currently facing criticism after announcing that $750 would be provided to Hurricane Helene victims through federal aid. 

During a visit to Augusta, Georgia—one of the hardest-hit areas—Harris revealed the financial relief, which will be distributed via FEMA. The aid is intended for immediate food needs, with further support available for long-term damage and other losses. The announcement followed the Biden administration's declaration of Georgia as a disaster zone on October 1.

The development comes as the Biden administration is now bragging about providing 67 Starlink satellites to impacted communities.

The $750 aid package has sparked backlash, with many critics taking to social media to express their displeasure, calling the amount insufficient, especially given the destruction caused by the hurricane, which damaged infrastructure, homes, and left many without communication. Critics have also questioned why billions of dollars are being allocated to foreign countries like Ukraine and Israel while American citizens were offered what they felt was a limited amount.

In contrast, former President Donald Trump has raised over $4 million for Hurricane Helene victims through a GoFundMe fundraiser organized by his national finance director, Meredith O'Rourke. Notable contributions include a $500,000 donation from former Republican Senator Kelly Loeffler.

Additionally, Elon Musk’s Starlink service is offering one month of free internet to those in the hardest-hit areas as part of the relief efforts.

The devastation caused by Hurricane Helene has left over 180 people dead, with hundreds still missing across the southeastern U.S. President Joe Biden and Vice President Harris visited several of the impacted areas on Wednesday, with Biden conducting an aerial survey of North and South Carolina. Meanwhile, Donald Trump visited Georgia earlier in the week to view the storm damage and offer support.
