PML-N faces major setback in Pindi

RAWALPINDI:

The Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) has faced a major setback in Rawalpindi as Chaudhry Sarfraz Afzal, a former advisor to Shehbaz Sharif with a 34-year affiliation to the party, has left to join the Awam Pakistan Party, aligning himself with Shahid Khaqan Abbasi. Chaudhry Sarfraz is a cousin of PML-N MNA Barrister Daniyal and the nephew of Chaudhry Tanveer.

In a statement from his mansion, he acknowledged his longstanding camaraderie with Nawaz Sharif but declared an end to his political ties with the Sharifs. He announced plans for a significant political rally soon, which will feature many notable political families and figures from Rawalpindi, including former chairmen, vice chairmen, and councillors who have also left the PML-N, embarking on a new political journey.

In an interview with The Express Tribune, the politician stated that his party will nominate surprise candidates for every union council, mayoral position, district council chairmanship, and national and provincial assembly seats in the upcoming local government elections.

This decision, made after careful consideration, marks the end of an era of old politics. Despite last-minute attempts to dissuade them, they are determined to move forward with a new political platform.
