An 8-year-old award-winning photographer, Jamie, is captivating social media with her remarkable discovery of a rare pink grasshopper in the UK.
Known for her stunning nature photography, Jamie shared her excitement in an Instagram video that has garnered significant attention.
"Wow, I just found a pink grasshopper. There's like 1% of people who can see pink grasshoppers in their lifetime. So, I am so lucky to be able to see it," Jamie exclaimed in the video.
She explained that the grasshopper's striking pink colour is due to a genetic aberration known as erythrism, which causes an overproduction of pink pigment and a lack of black pigmentation.
This rare condition makes sightings of pink grasshoppers extremely uncommon, with only about 1% of the population likely to ever witness one.
In the video’s caption, Jamie’s family wrote, "A rare find by Jamie - Eagle Eyed Girl: A Pink Grasshopper! The pink is due to a genetic mutation."
The video has sparked an enthusiastic response from viewers. One user remarked, “This is what kids on social media are supposed to look like. Kids are inspired and curious about the world around them. I love it.”
Another user compared Jamie’s talent to that of renowned naturalist David Attenborough, stating, “She’s as good as David Attenborough. I will watch her nature show religiously.”
With her incredible find, Jamie not only showcases the beauty of nature but also inspires others to engage with and appreciate the natural world around them.
