Fusion Centre to be set up to combat drug menace

KARACHI:

The high-level meeting, second in a row with Sindh Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon, has decided to establish a Fusion Centre to enhance intelligence sharing and coordination among all provinces and the centreto combat drug-related issues.

Sharjeel directed the committee to meet every 15 days to review progress and expedite actions against narcotics. DIG CIA and Commander ANF briefed the meeting on the actions taken by Sindh Police and ANF against drug-related crimes.

The Fusion Centre will collaborate with the health department to support rehabilitation centres for drug addicts.

The meeting was informed that the govt has stepped up its anti-narcotics efforts, with 9,000 individuals seeking help at rehabilitation centres for drug addicts. In a significant crackdown, 13 suspects involved in supplying drugs in educational institutions have been arrested.

Senior minister stressed on the need for a zero-tolerance policy against drugs, stating that it is a matter of survival for the younger generation.

Sharjeel announced plans to conduct drug tests in educational institutions on regular basis.

He also directed the authorities to identify key drug peddling locations to eliminate them.
