India breaks 92-year record with victory over Bangladesh in Chennai Test

For first time in 92 years since their Test debut, Indian cricket team now has more wins than losses in Test matches.

India's cricket team etched its name in the history books after defeating Bangladesh by a whopping 280 runs in the first Test in Chennai.

With this victory, India surpassed a significant milestone: for the first time in 92 years of Test cricket, their total wins now exceed their losses.

Since India's Test debut in 1932, under the captaincy of C.K. Nayudu, the team has worked tirelessly to even out their win-loss record. They endured their first defeat against England by 158 runs and have faced an uphill battle ever since.

However, with this latest win, India now has 179 victories and 178 losses from a total of 581 Test matches.

India's Test cricket journey has been long and challenging. While teams like Pakistan achieved this feat within 16 matches of their Test debut, India had to wait 92 years to balance their win-loss ratio.

Other teams like Australia, England, and South Africa reached this milestone at different stages, with Australia doing so in their first match, and Afghanistan achieving it in just three.

By comparison, Pakistan now has 148 wins and 144 losses, while Australia boasts 414 victories against 232 losses. England, too, has a solid record, with 397 wins to 325 defeats.

Test Day 2

India took a 308-run lead at the end of Day 2 of the first Test against Bangladesh with Shubman Gill (33) and Rishabh Pant (12) holding the fort.

Earlier in the day, in response to India's 374, Bangladesh could only muster 149 as the Indian bowlers made short work of the visiting batting lineup on Day 2 of the first Test in Chennai.

Jasprit Bumrah was the pick of the bowlers, claiming a 4-fer. Mohammed Siraj, Akash Deep, and Ravindra Jadeja struck twice each to account for the remainder of the wickets.

Hasan Mahmud (5/83) become the first Bangladesh bowler to bag a five-wicket haul in India. The 24-year-old reached the milestone on Day 2 morning in Chennai after he dismissed Jasprit Bumrah. This, as India were dismissed for 374 with Ravichandran Ashwin top scoring for the hosts, scoring his sixth hundred in Test cricket.

Ravindra Jadeja (86) added 199 runs for the seventh wicket alongside Ashwin. Opener Yashasvi Jaiswal continued his fine run in Indian whites as he scored a fine half-century to restore parity following an early streak of wickets for Bangladesh on Day 1.

The last two Bangladesh wickets hung around for three quarters of an hour, but that was not nearly enough to challenge India, who chose not to enforce the follow-on despite a 227-run lead following an innings that lasted just 47.1 overs.
