In a bold Instagram post, the legendary Zeenat Aman is shaking up perceptions of the term "aunty." With a stylish snapshot to accompany her heartfelt message, the veteran actor asks, "Which genius decided that 'aunty' is a derogatory term?"

Zeenat embraces her identity, declaring, "I'm an aunty and proud." She reminisces about the warmth and support she received from her stepmother, Shamim aunty, who played a pivotal role in her life, especially during the chaotic years of motherhood. "Where would we be without those ubiquitous older women?" she questions, highlighting the nurturing spirit that defines the Indian aunty.

In a passionate tribute, Zeenat captures the essence of these women: "They provide a shoulder to lean on, an ear to your problems, a hot meal, a silly joke, a welcoming home, a righteous scolding, a pearl of wisdom." Instead of viewing the term through a negative lens, she encourages her followers to celebrate the positive contributions of the aunts in their lives.

The actor's post isn't just a personal reflection; it's a rallying cry to redefine societal perceptions and honour the women who embody the true spirit of "aunty."

Earlier, Zeenat sparked controversy with an Instagram post where she advocated for live-in relationships before marriage. "One of you asked me about relationship advice in the comments section of my last post. Here's a personal opinion I haven't previously shared - if you're in a relationship, I strongly recommend that you live together before getting married," she had penned.

She continued, "This is the same advice I've always given my sons, both of whom have had, or are in, a live-in relationship. It just seems logical to me that before two people get their families and the government involved in their equation, they first put their relationship to the ultimate test."

While many welcomed Zeenat's advice, others including senior Indian actor, Mumtaz, expressed strong disagreement. Mumtaz, who is renowned for her memorable roles in Bollywood classics, such as her costarring role with Aman in the 1971 movie Hare Rama Hare Krishna, issued a warning against Aman's guidance.

"Zeenat should be careful with what she is advising," said Mumtaz in an interview with Zoom. "She has all of a sudden come into this huge social media popularity, and I can understand her excitement about sounding like a cool aunty. But giving advice that is counter to our moral values is not the solution to increasing your following." She added, "(Take Zeenat for example)…She knew Mazhar Khan for years before marrying him. Her marriage was a living hell. She should be the last person doling out advice on relationships."
