D-day: Low scorers dominate HSSC results

Around half of the candidates failed the exam, while the majority that passed secured D and E grades.

The result of the Higher Secondary School Certificate (HSSC) 2011 announced by the Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education (BISE) on Saturday revealed that majority of the candidates passed with low grades.

Out of a total of 59,601 candidates that appeared for the HSSC exam this year, only 28,789 passed (48.39%), of which only 70 candidates received A-I grades. A total of 334 candidates secured A grade, 1,486 got B grade and 3,735 received grade C. The remaining 23,164 candidates passed the exam securing D and E grades, with marks below 550, out of a total of 1,100.

Gender-wise, 52% of total female candidates passed the exam, while male candidates had a lower passing percentage of 43%. Of the total of 29,387 private candidates that appeared in the exam, only 34.4% passed, while out of the 30,225 regular candidates, 61.9% passed.

Overall, the result showed a decline in the pass percentage over the previous year.

Overall top scorers in the exams were Rabia Afroz of District Public Girls Higher Secondary School, District Complex Chakwal, who stood first with 1,018 marks; Sohaib Hassan of Misili Barani Science College, Chakial Road Talagang, stood second with 1,006 marks; and Muhammad Hanzala of Punjab College of Information Technology, Satellite Town Rawalpindi, came third with 1,003 marks.

Sohaib Hassan from Talagang also stood first among the boys in the pre-engineering group with 1,006 marks, while Aakifa Ishtiaq from Punjab College of Information Technology for Girls, Satellite Town Rawalpindi, stood first among the girls in the same group with 987 marks.

In pre-medical group, Rabia Afroz from Chakwal got first position among girls with 1,018 marks, while Hassan Ahmed of Cadet College Hassanabdal stood first among the boys in the same group with 992 marks.

In the science general group, Ayesha Binte Arshad of Punjab College of Information Rawalpindi stood first among the girls with 969 marks, while among the boys, Muhammad Tayyab Zulfiqar of Military College Jehlum Sarai Alamgir stood first with 904 marks.

Aleena Khan of Punjab College of Information Rawalpindi marks secured first position among girls in the commerce group with 950, while Muhammad Bilal Adil of the same college got first position among the boys with 940 marks.

In the humanities group, a private candidate Muniba Quratul Ain stood first among girls with 920 marks and among boys Mudassir Rehan of Community Model Higher Secondary School Pindori Jabbar Gujar Khan secured first position with 886 marks.

The chief guest, MNA Hanif Abbasi said the Punjab government has planned to build a college for technical education in Rawalpindi at the cost of Rs400 million.
