Team India gears up for their upcoming Test series against Bangladesh, the spotlight is on new head coach Gautam Gambhir, who is set to embark on his first Test assignment. This series follows a disappointing ODI stint where Gambhir's initial tenure was marred by a series loss to Sri Lanka.
In Chennai for a pre-series training camp, Gambhir and his support staff, including bowling coach Morne Morkel and assistant coach Ryan ten Doeschate, are preparing for the two Test matches. Rohit Sharma, speaking at a press conference, shared his insights into working with the new coaching team.
“I have a good understanding of both Gautam Gambhir and Abhishek Nayar,” Rohit said. “I’ve played a lot against Morne Morkel, and while I haven’t interacted much with Ryan ten Doeschate, he’s shown a good grasp of the team’s dynamics.”
Rohit acknowledged that every coach brings a unique style. “Rahul Dravid, Vikram Rathour, and Paras Mhambrey had their own methods, and Gambhir and Nayar have their distinct approach. It’s crucial to adapt, and so far, there have been no issues. Building understanding between coaches and players is key, and we’ve established a good rapport.”
Looking ahead, Rohit emphasized the importance of the upcoming series. “Every game is critical, especially with the World Test Championship standings still open. We need to focus on winning every match, regardless of where we play next.”
The team, which began its camp on September 12, is preparing intensively for the challenges ahead, including future series against Australia and New Zealand.
