Josh Gad regrets voicing Olaf: "Big mistake" using his own voice for the ‘Frozen’ character

Josh Gad admits voicing Olaf in Frozen was a "big mistake," wishing he'd created a different voice for the snowman.

Josh Gad, the voice behind Olaf in Disney's Frozen franchise, recently confessed that using his natural voice for the iconic snowman was a "big mistake." During an interview at Fan Expo Canada, Gad shared, "If I could do it all over again, I wouldn’t have lent that snowman my voice. I would’ve created a different voice."

He explained how strange it feels to be recognized by children in public. “It’s very weird being in a supermarket and having a little child slowly turn their head and stare at me,” he joked. Despite his reservations, Gad acknowledged, "People tell me I have a very unique voice, so I try to give it to them when I can."

Gad, who first voiced Olaf in 2013's Frozen and returned for the 2019 sequel, is set to reprise his role in the upcoming Frozen 3 and Frozen 4. While appearing on Live with Kelly and Mark, the actor revealed that he found out about the sequels while vacationing in Greece. "My phone blew up with people saying, ‘I’m so excited about Frozen 3 and Frozen 4,’ and I had no idea! Nobody called to tell us."

Though he wasn’t initially looped in, Gad now has high expectations for the next chapters of Frozen. “I’ve heard some things, and it’s going to be unbelievable. What they’re dreaming up is pretty incredible,” he teased.

With Frozen 3 slated for release on November 24, 2027, fans are eagerly awaiting Gad’s return as Olaf—whether he likes it or not.
