Inmates misuse jail LEDs for adult content

Inmates across Punjab prisons have been found misusing LED screens to watch adult content, prompting authorities to take swift action.

The issue first came to light during an inspection at Central Jail Rawalpindi, where prisoners were discovered exploiting the USB ports in jail-installed LED screens to access 'unauthorised' material.

This revelation has raised significant security concerns within the prison system.

In response, the Inspector General (IG) of Prisons Punjab has issued a province-wide directive mandating the immediate removal of USB ports from all LED screens installed in jail cells.

The LED screens were originally introduced for educational and entertainment purposes. However, the discovery that inmates had been accessing adult content via USB drives has forced prison authorities to tighten controls on electronic devices.

As part of the new directive, jail superintendents have been ordered to inspect all LEDs, LCDs and TVs in prison cells and ensure that USB ports are removed within seven days.

Officials must submit signed certificates confirming compliance or face disciplinary action.

Additionally, the circular specifies that any future installations of electronic devices within prisons must have USB ports disabled before being introduced.
