The Sindh government has introduced mandatory biometric verification for the registration and transfer of vehicles across the province, as part of a new policy aimed at increasing transparency and reducing fraud within the Excise Department.
Sindh Excise Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon announced the changes, explaining that the new system will be rolled out in three phases.
Phase 1: From July 1st, biometric verification will be required for the registration of new vehicles.
Phase 2: Effective November 1st, biometric verification will become compulsory for those purchasing vehicles, while
Phase 3: Both buyers and sellers will be required to undergo biometric verification.
“This initiative marks a significant step in enhancing transparency,” Sharjeel said, adding that the process will help prevent illegal transfers and fraudulent transactions.
Citizens will be able to complete biometric verification at NADRA e-facilitation centres or their local district excise offices, Memon noted.
The Excise Minister has been actively modernising the Sindh Excise and Taxation Department since assuming office, with previous measures including the facilitation of vehicle registrations at showrooms and the introduction of premium number plates, aimed at fundraising for flood victims.
