Balochistan minister Sarfaraz Domki passes away at 55 after illness

Funeral prayer will be offered at his native town Bakhtiyar Abad.

Sardar Sarfaraz Chakar Domki, Balochistan’s Provincial Minister for Local Government and Rural Development, passed away on Monday in Karachi after battling lung and kidney disease.

He was 55.

Sarfaraz had been undergoing treatment at a private hospital for the past 10 days.

His death was confirmed by his family, who shared that the minister had been in critical condition prior to his passing.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif expressed his deep sorrow, describing Sarfaraz as a seasoned politician whose death leaves Balochistan politics bereft of an intellectual leader.

“We share the grief of his family,” the prime minister remarked. He also prayed for strength for the bereaved family.

President Asif Ali Zardari also conveyed his condolences, highlighting Sarfaraz’s significant contributions to Balochistan’s political landscape.

The president praised his political service and offered prayers for the departed soul.

Balochistan Chief Minister Mir Sarfraz Bugti has expressed profound grief.

In a statement, Bugti described Sarfaraz as a wise and trustworthy politician, as well as an influential tribal leader.

The Chief Minister highlighted Sarfaraz's positive role in shaping Balochistan’s political and tribal landscape, noting his active participation as a key member of the current Balochistan Cabinet.

Bugti extended his sympathies to Domki’s family, assuring them of his support during this difficult time

Sarfaraz Domki, who was the chief of the Domki tribe, secured 27,677 votes in the 2024 Balochistan Assembly elections as a PPP-P candidate.

His political career spanned several key positions, including serving as the Provincial Minister for Labour and Management from 2018 to 2023.

He also briefly held the post of Provincial Minister for Culture, Archives, and Tourism in 2018.

Sarfaraz had remained a prominent figure in Balochistan's politics since 2013, and his passing marks the end of an influential era for the province.Funeral prayer will be offered at his native town Bakhtiyar Abad.
