LAHORE:

An argument over using a cigarette lighter turned deadly at Bhaikewal Mor, leaving an elderly man dead and three other people, including a child, injured.

The suspect, Sohail, is a resident of Ghoriyan Wali Gali in Iqbal Town.

According to initial reports, Sohail visited a local shop to purchase cigarettes on Friday night and attempted to walk away with the lighter after lighting his cigarette.

The shopkeeper, Irfan, asked him to return the lighter, sparking a heated argument that escalated into a scuffle.

During the altercation, 80-year-old Muhammad Sarwar tried to intervene and stop the fight. However, Sohail pulled out a pistol and fired it, hitting Sarwar in the neck and resulting in his immediate death. Two bystanders -- 26-year-old Shani and 13-year-old Mehmood – also suffered bullet injuries.

People present at the spot, including Sarwar's son Iftikhar and grandson Nazakat, managed to disarm Sohail, but he also suffered a bullet injury in the leg during the scuffle.
