KARACHI:

The Additional District and Sessions Judge, Malir, awarded 14-year imprisonment to a police officer for his involvement in drug business.

After the prosecution successfully proved the crime, the court in its verdict announced 14-year jail term for assistant sub-inspector (ASI) M. Imran of Gulshan-e-Maymar police station. The court also imposed a fine of Rs400,000 on the accused. In case of non-payment of the fine, the accused will have to serve additional five months in prison.

In its decision, the court stated that the crime committed by the accused was not minor. Since the accused is a police officer, a copy of this judgment will also be sent to the IG Sindh.

According to the prosecution, the accused was arrested in March last year from Faqira Goth on suspicious activity, and later, more than one kilogram of hashish was recovered from him. Witnesses' testimonies strengthened the case against the accused. Minor contradictions in drug-related cases did not benefit the accused.
