Playboi Carti drops new single 'All Red,' stirring controversy over 'satanic' lyrics

Rapper Playboi Carti celebrated his 29th birthday by releasing his latest single, "All Red," on September 13 across all major music streaming platforms. 

The track serves as the first single from his highly anticipated upcoming studio album, 'I Am Music', which is expected to drop before October 2025. Available on YouTube and DSPs like Spotify, "All Red" has already stirred controversy due to its lyrics, with the chorus reading, “Upside-down cross tat' on my neck, shut 'em up, uh, uh."

Fans and critics alike have reacted strongly, with many calling the lyrics “satanic” or “anti-Christ.” 

Some users on social media compared Carti’s sound to rapper Future, while others took issue with the upside-down cross reference. 

One user commented, “Not a fan of the demonic lyrics... they know d*mn well what they are doing.” 

Playboi Carti, known for sporting an upside-down cross tattoo on both shoulders, has faced similar controversy before. 

During his 2021 King Vamp Tour, he was seen wearing the symbol, and again in 2022 with additional tattoos referencing "Satan." 

Despite the uproar, Carti hasn’t responded to the backlash. The single's release follows his performance of "All Red" at the 2024 Lyrical Lemonade Summer Smash Music Festival in Chicago, where he teased fans with a preview of the track.

The track is produced by Philadelphia producer F1lthy and songwriting duo Ojivolta, with contributions from long-time collaborators Lucian, Lukrative, and Twisco. 

In a post on Instagram, Carti wrote, “THIS 1 FOR Y’ALL, I CAN’T LIE,” signaling his excitement for the album, which is his first music drop since 2020’s 'Whole Lotta Red'.
