David Henrie recently shared details about the lengths How I Met Your Mother fans went to in order to uncover the show’s highly anticipated ending. During a guest appearance on The George Janko Show podcast, Henrie revealed that fans tried to bribe him with free drinks to get him to spill the finale. However, the actor, who played Ted Mosby’s son in the series, never gave in due to an iron-clad nondisclosure agreement (NDA) he signed during the show’s second season.
Henrie recalled that, around season 6 or 7, fans would approach him at bars, saying, "We’ve heard you know the ending!" and would send him drinks in hopes of getting the scoop. “I didn’t tell anybody until the end of the show. I didn’t tell a single person,” Henrie stated on the podcast.
He explained that How I Met Your Mother creators, Carter Bays and Craig Thomas, shared potential finale details with him and co-star Lyndsy Fonseca early on, filming stock footage of the duo to maintain continuity across the show’s nine seasons. Henrie said the showrunners pulled him and Fonseca aside, had them sign NDAs, and shared that they planned to "get back to Robin somehow" for the ending.
Though Henrie knew some spoilers for years, he kept the secret to avoid breaking the NDA and facing legal consequences.
