The University of Management and Technology (UMT) Markhors dominated the Lake City Panthers by a hefty margin of 160 runs in the opening match of the Bahria Town Champions One-Day Cup at Iqbal Stadium on Thursday.

After opting to bat first, the Markhors set a formidable target of 348 runs.

The innings was anchored by Kamran Ghulam's stellar 115 off 102 balls, including 12 boundaries and 3 sixes, and a blistering 62 off just 25 balls from Abdul Samad. Samad's fireworks included 4 fours and 6 sixes.

Mohammad Rizwan added a solid 45 off 57 balls, and Iftikhar Ahmed chipped in with an unbeaten 57 from 44 deliveries, punctuated by 7 fours and a six.

The Markhors' late surge saw them amass 107 runs in the final 10 overs, finishing their innings at 347-4.

In reply, the Panthers struggled from the outset, stumbling to a dismal 52-6 within the first powerplay. Naseem Shah led the charge with a destructive three-wicket haul, supported by Akif Javed with two crucial scalps and a brilliant run-out by Abdul Samad. Saim Ayub (20) was the only top-order batter to make it to double figures.

Amad Butt offered a defiant resistance with a gritty 72 off 84 balls, partnering with Mubasir Khan (33) and Usama Mir (21) to add some respectability to the score. However, their efforts were insufficient as the Panthers were bowled out for 187 in 34.5 overs.

For the Markhors, Naseem Shah and Akif Javed each claimed three wickets, while Shahnawaz Dahani contributed with two and Zahid Mehmood took one wicket, dismissing top-scorer Amad Butt. It is worth noting that Mohammad Haris's Stallions will face off against Shaheen Afridi's Lions in the second clash of the Champions One-Day Cup on Friday, September 13, at 3:00 PM (PST).
