In an operation on Thursday night, the Punjab Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) neutralised two terrorists in Dera Ghazi Khan, according to a statement released on Friday. The operation took place on Quetta Road, following intelligence reports about the presence of terrorists in the area.
During the encounter, gunfire erupted between the CTD and the terrorists. The statement revealed that the two terrorists were inadvertently killed by their allies, who also managed to flee the scene under the cover of darkness. Two other terrorists escaped during the chaos.
The CTD's search of the terrorists' hideouts yielded a cache of explosives, two rifles, ammunition, and a hand grenade. Authorities believe the militants were planning to target key installations and carry out large-scale terrorist activities in the province.
The CTD is currently working to identify the deceased terrorists and has launched a man-hunt for the remaining fugitives. The department further stressed its commitment to ensuring safety in Punjab and its determination to eradicate terrorism from the region.
In recent efforts, the CTD Punjab has conducted 475 intelligence-based operations across the province over the past month, resulting in the arrest of 33 suspected terrorists.
This comes amid a rise in terrorist attacks nationwide, with August witnessing 59 attacks compared to 38 in the previous month, as reported by the Pak Institute for Peace Studies.
