Susan Smith's case shocked the nation in 1994. She initially claimed a Black man had carjacked her and kidnapped her sons, but later confessed to driving her car into a lake with the boys strapped inside. The motive? Her new boyfriend didn't want children.

David, who has spoken in the past about the devastating impact of the murders, continues to grapple with the loss of his sons. "There's always this nagging and gnawing heartache," he said in a 2010 interview.

Susan Smith was convicted of two counts of murder and is serving a life sentence. Despite disciplinary issues in prison, including drug use and self-harm, she is eligible for parole on November 4th, 2024.
