The unofficial and preliminary results of the by-election in National Assembly constituency NA-171 Rahim Yar Khan have been announced, with the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) candidate emerging victorious.
According to media reports, Makhdoom Tahir Rashiduddin of the PPP secured 116,429 votes. In contrast, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) candidate Hissan Mustafa received 58,251 votes.
The election was expected to be a tight contest between Makhdoom Tahir Rashiduddin of the PPP and Hissan Mustafa of PTI, with four independent candidates also participating in the race.
A total of 301 polling stations were established in the constituency, with security provided by 2,700 police personnel. Polling took place on Thursday from 8 am to 5 pm without any breaks.
This seat became vacant following the death of PTI's Member of National Assembly (MNA) Mumtaz Mustafa. The constituency has a total of 526,973 registered voters.
