An active shooter situation is currently unfolding at the Arista Flats Apartments in Broomfield, with police urging residents to shelter in place.
The apartments are located along U.S. 36 at Wadsworth Boulevard, behind the 1stBank Center, which is set for demolition. Reports of the shooting began just after 8 a.m. Thursday.
Broomfield police have posted on X (formerly Twitter) that SWAT teams, crisis negotiators, and surrounding law enforcement agencies are on the scene. Jefferson Academy, situated at 11251 Reed Way, has been placed on secure status, meaning the school remains open but with locked doors and restricted access.

In addition to SWAT teams, fire crews and Boulder County Sheriff's Office deputies are assisting. While some limited evacuations have taken place, most residents are advised to stay indoors and avoid the area. The nearby RTD Light Rail station at U.S. 36 and Broomfield Station is also impacted.
