'There cannot be two laws, two systems'

Gandapur says there must be uniformity in legal system

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur has stated that there cannot be two laws, two systems, or two Pakistans.

"There should be one law and one system for everyone," he stressed

Speaking at a Bar Council Association event, Ali Amin Gandapur emphasised that if the country does not identify wrongdoings and negative elements, there is little chance for reform. He reiterated that there cannot be two laws or two systems, and that one law and one system should apply equally to all.

He further said that change must start with the people. "We must move the country forward."

He clarified that his government has not sought revenge, nor have provincial institutions been used for personal vendettas. He stressed that his party does not wish to spread hatred, as it harms the country. "However, we will not stop speaking up for their rights, justice, and true freedom," the K-P CM asserted.

Gandapur added that the Constitution grants people the right to defend their rights. "Their challenges are different, and their goals should also be different, but they are entangled in other issues," he said, taking a jab at the PML-N-led government. "Until they break free from this situation, they cannot progress."

Addressing the legal community, he noted that lawyers bear the responsibility of delivering justice. He urged them to stand for the truth and not defend any case against justice and merit. He remarked that nations thrive where justice prevails, and societies remain peaceful and content when people are assured of their rights and justice.

The CM expressed regret over the weaknesses of the judicial system, which he said must be addressed, highlighting the key role lawyers play in this regard.

Ali Amin Gandapur further stated that the absence of a fair system of accountability has led to repeated violations of the Constitution. "Without genuine rule of law, progress is impossible," he continued. "Islam has provided a clear path and a system of reward and punishment, and adherence to this framework is essential for establishing a just society."

He concluded by saying that Islam teaches its followers to speak the truth, stand firm for justice, and raise their voice against oppression. He called for a united struggle for the rule of law, rising above personal interests and political affiliations.
