Collin Gosselin, the son of Jon & Kate Plus 8 star Kate Gosselin, has come forward with troubling allegations against his estranged mother. In an interview with The U.S. Sun, the 20-year-old claimed that Kate subjected him to prolonged physical and emotional abuse during his childhood, including being confined to a locked room in the family’s basement.
According to Collin, his mother had a special room built in their basement, which he described as a “containment room.” He alleged that the room was equipped with cameras, had a single window, and was bolted shut from the outside. Inside, there was only a mattress on the floor. “That’s how I lived,” Collin shared, adding that he spent much of his childhood isolated from his siblings and rarely attended school. He also accused Kate of tying his hands and feet with zip ties on multiple occasions.
Collin's accusations extended beyond physical isolation, with claims that his mother often took out her emotional distress on him. “I definitely went through it a lot as a kid from my mother’s end,” he said, emphasizing how he was frequently blamed for her emotional difficulties.
Kate Gosselin's attorney, Richard Puleo, responded to the accusations, saying that while there are "two sides to every story," he does not believe Kate intended to harm her son. “If Kate did the things Collin is accusing her of, she would have been investigated by the authorities and prosecuted,” Puleo said.
Collin’s father, Jon Gosselin, who now has custody of Collin and his sibling Hannah, corroborated some details, confirming the existence of the basement room. "It must have been terrifying for him," Jon remarked.
Reps for Kate, Collin, and Jon have not yet commented further.
