Spider-Verse composer responds to claims about third film being scrapped due to creative differences

The third installment of the Spider-Verse animated series, Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse, is facing significant delays amid reports that much of the movie has been scrapped. Originally set for release in March 2024, the film was abruptly removed from the schedule with no new date announced. According to film insider Jeff Sneider, Sony made the decision for "creative reasons," leading to the possibility of a two- to three-year delay. Sneider also claimed that the team behind the film was "relieved" by the decision.

Production delays were further exacerbated by the 2023 Hollywood strikes, which stalled the recording of voice actor dialogue. Additionally, reports suggest tension between Sony and Spider-Verse creators Phil Lord and Chris Miller, particularly over budget disputes for the spin-off series Spider-Noir. As a result, that project was not renewed.

Amid these rumors, Spider-Verse composer Daniel Pemberton cast doubt on the accuracy of the reports. "Don’t really ever want to weigh in on this sort of stuff BUT would you ever believe there could sometimes be stuff on the internet that might not always be particularly accurate? Hmmmm…" Pemberton said in response.

The Spider-Verse franchise has been a critical success, with Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse earning an Oscar nomination for Best Animated Feature earlier this year. Despite the setbacks, fans remain hopeful for the eventual release of the highly anticipated third installment.
