RAWALPINDI:

Street crimes in Rawalpindi show no signs of abating as criminals boldly snatch cash and mobile phones from unsuspecting women and pedestrians.

Recent incidents have been reported in the areas of Saddar Beruni and Naseerabad police stations, where a woman and two brothers were robbed of their cash and mobile phones in separate incidents. CCTV footage from these incidents has emerged, but the perpetrators have yet to be apprehended.

In the first incident, which took place in the Kehkashan Colony area of Saddar police station, CCTV footage captures a woman walking with a child while talking on her mobile phone. A motorcyclist circles the deserted street, and upon spotting the woman, returns quickly to snatch the phone from her hand before fleeing. The footage shows the woman and child running after the motorcyclist in an attempt to recover the stolen phone.

The second incident occurred in New Chakra Kohsar Colony, within the jurisdiction of Naseerabad police station. CCTV footage reveals four armed motorcyclists entering the street, two of whom stop two brothers forcibly. Moments later, two additional motorcyclists arrive, and their accomplices dismount to rob the brothers of cash amounting to Rs0.4 million and their mobile phones.

The footage also shows a neighbour opening his door in response to the commotion, yet the robbers manage to escape without difficulty.

Despite the clear video evidence, the police have not yet been able to identify or capture the suspects involved in these crimes.
