Eminem will kick off the 2024 MTV Video Music Awards (VMAs) on Wednesday, Sept. 11, at New York’s UBS Arena, marking his first live TV performance from his 12th studio album The Death of Slim Shady (Coup de Grace). This will be his first VMAs performance since 2022, where he collaborated with Snoop Dogg on "From the D 2 The LBC." The rapper last opened the show in 2010 with a rendition of "Not Afraid" and a duet with Rihanna on "Love the Way You Lie."
The VMAs will also feature performances by Megan Thee Stallion, who is set to host, along with Katy Perry, Lenny Kravitz, and Sabrina Carpenter. The pre-show will include the U.S. award show debut of Le Sserafim. Cyndi Lauper, who won at the first VMAs in 1984, will present during the show, alongside other notable presenters like Paris Hilton and Lil Nas X.
Eminem is nominated for eight awards this year, including video of the year for "Houdini" and artist of the year. With 13 VMAs to his name, Eminem could surpass Peter Gabriel to become the male artist with the most VMAs wins if he takes home an award. He has the most wins of any hip-hop artist in VMAs history.
