Moeen Ali, the renowned English cricketer, has announced his retirement from all formats of international cricket. The decision follows his exclusion from the squad for the upcoming series against Australia.
In an exclusive interview with a British publication, the 37-year-old reflected on his long career, stating, "I've played a lot of cricket for England. It's time for the next generation, which was also explained to me. It felt the time was right. I've done my part."
Moeen expressed pride in representing his country and said he felt the time was right to step away from international duties.
Moeen Ali made his international debut in 2014 against the West Indies.
Over the course of his career, he accumulated 6,678 runs across formats and claimed 366 wickets.
He was a key part of England’s squad in their victorious campaigns at both the 2019 Cricket World Cup and the 2022 T20 World Cup.
Initially more inclined towards batting in his youth, Moeen honed his bowling skills during his time with the England team, eventually becoming one of their top Test bowlers.
He finished with 204 Test wickets, placing him as England's third-highest wicket-taking spinner in Test cricket, behind Derek Underwood (297) and Graeme Swann (255).
Moeen, who had already retired from Test cricket, ends his career with 68 Test matches, 138 ODIs, and 92 T20 Internationals for England.
