GILGIT:

Restoration efforts were underway on Saturday to reopen the Karakoram Highway, which remains closed since Friday night due to isolated monsoon rains.

The work is now focused on removing flood debris from Lal Pari and Bailey bridge to restore full access to the highway.

A temporary route has been created to release the trapped traffic, allowing vehicles heading towards Gilgit, Astore, and Skardu to cross.

Following the measures, traffic moving towards Chilas will also be allowed to pass. After clearing the stranded vehicles, the highway will be closed again for three hours to remove remaining flood debris and restore the road for all types of traffic.
