Sarmad Khoosat's Kamli is gearing up for its UK television debut, and it's making quite the splash on Channel 4. Yes, you heard that right— the film is about to grace British screens as part of Channel 4's South Asian Film Season, which is curated by none other than Indian cinema aficionado Nasreen Kabir. The news came straight from Khoosat himself, who posted on Facebook, "Very happy and truly humbled to announce that Kamli will have its UK television premiere and OTT release on the prestigious Channel 4 this September."

The film season kicks off on September 8, and it's set to be a journey through the many faces of South Asian cinema. The lineup isn't messing around either—there's a smorgasbord of genres from drama to documentary, with stories that aren't afraid to tackle heavy-hitting themes like class, race, politics, and gender. You know, all the good stuff that gets you thinking.

As for Kamli, well, it's going to make its Channel 4 debut on September 10 at the slightly bleary-eyed time of 1:45 am UK time. But don't worry if that's way past your bedtime—you can stream it on the Channel 4 website right after.

This psychological drama, set in the quiet confines of rural Pakistan, doesn't hold back. It dives deep into the lives of three women, each battling their own internal storms. Hina (played by Saba Qamar) is stuck in a waiting game, her husband having been abroad for the last eight years. When Amaltas (Hamza Khawaja), a mysterious drifter, crosses her path, sparks fly—both metaphorically and romantically. Meanwhile, Zeenat (Nimra Bucha) is an artist whose life is unraveling faster than her sobriety.

Kamli hasn't gone unnoticed by critics. Last year, Khoosat snagged the Best Director Award at the DC South Asian Film Festival, and the film itself scored two wins at Belarus's Listapad festival. Sania Saeed's role was so gripping that she clinched Best Actress at MISAFF in Mississauga.

So, if you're in the mood for some deeply emotional storytelling, the South Asian Film Season is the perfect fix. Along with Kamli, there's a whole slew of titles like Joram, Bhagwan Bharose, A House Named Shahana, and more.
