Emily Armstrong, the newly announced vocalist for Linkin Park, is facing criticism following her past ties to the Church of Scientology and her support for convicted rapist Danny Masterson. Armstrong addressed the backlash in an Instagram story, stating she misjudged Masterson and does not condone violence against women.

The controversy arose after Armstrong's association with Scientology and her attendance at one of Masterson's court hearings resurfaced. Mars Volta singer Cedric Bixler-Zavala, whose wife accused Masterson of sexual assault, led the criticism, questioning Armstrong's support for the convicted rapist.

Armstrong clarified that she attended an early hearing as an observer, believing Masterson to be a friend. However, she soon realized her mistake after "unimaginable details emerged" and he was found guilty. She emphasized her stance against abuse and violence against women.

Masterson, known for his roles in "That 70's Show" and "The Ranch," was sentenced to 30 years to life in prison for raping two women. The allegations against him sparked conversations about Scientology's alleged involvement in covering up the abuse.

While Armstrong addressed her support for Masterson, she has yet to respond to the comments regarding Scientology. Linkin Park's representatives directed Variety to Armstrong's statement and the situation is still developing.

This controversy highlights the ongoing conversation about accountability and support for survivors in the entertainment industry. As Armstrong steps into the spotlight with Linkin Park, her past actions are under scrutiny, emphasizing the importance of aligning personal values with public platforms.
