MQM stages protest at K-Electric headquarters, demands end to power outages

Farooq Sattar warns the power distribution company of a larger public outcry if situation persists

KARACHI:

The Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P) staged a protest at the K-Electric headquarters in Karachi on Thursday, demanding an end to prolonged power outages in the city.

Senior leader Dr Farooq Sattar addressed the participants, stating, "Karachi households face up to 10 hours of load-shedding. Our primary demand today is to end these blackouts."

He warned K-Electric of a larger public outcry if the situation persists. "This is our first protest, but the administration should fear the day when millions of consumers will stand in front of their offices."

Opposition Leader in the Sindh Assembly, Ali Khursheedi, also spoke, criticising the utility company. "Every citizen of Karachi suffers due to K-Electric’s mismanagement. MQM-P called for this sit-in, and within 24 hours, thousands have gathered."

Khursheedi added that K-Electric must change its approach. "If they don’t, the people of Karachi are free to make their own decisions."

Senior leaders, including Nasreen Jalil and Anis Ahmed Qaimkhani, were also present at the protest.
