Abon'go Malik Obama, the Kenyan-American half-brother of former President Barack Obama, has announced his support for Donald Trump in the upcoming 2024 election. Malik, a registered Republican, took to X (formerly Twitter) on Wednesday to declare, "I am Malik Obama. I'm a registered Republican and I'm voting for President Donald Trump" (source: @ObamaMalik, September 4, 2024). His endorsement follows years of public criticism of his brother and the Democratic Party. Malik, once close to the former president, has since distanced himself, becoming a vocal Trump supporter since 2016.

Malik's recent social media posts also included harsh remarks directed at Kamala Harris and the Democratic Party. In a tweet dated August 31, Malik referred to Democrats as “advocates of abortion, gay marriage, sex change, illegal immigration, voter fraud” (source: @ObamaMalik). He further compared Harris to Hillary Clinton, calling her "Hillary Clinton in another dimension."

Malik, who holds dual citizenship in Kenya and the U.S., was a prominent supporter of Barack Obama's 2008 campaign but has since grown critical of his half-brother's policies. He attended Trump's 2016 debate against Hillary Clinton and supported Trump's 2020 re-election campaign. Despite their political differences, Malik was once close to Barack, stating in a 2004 interview, “He was best man at my wedding and I was best man at his.”
