Muhammad Yunus, Bangladesh's interim head of state, has condemned former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina for making political statements from India, calling it an “unfriendly gesture.”

Yunus, who was appointed Chief Advisor after Hasina's ouster, urged Hasina to remain silent while in India to avoid straining relations between the two countries.

In a recent interview, Yunus expressed discomfort with Hasina’s public remarks and ongoing political activities from her refuge in India.

He criticized both her presence in India and her vocal demands for justice related to recent violence in Bangladesh, stating that such actions complicate diplomatic relations and hinder efforts to bring her back to Bangladesh for trial.

Yunus emphasized that Bangladesh values its relationship with India but criticized New Delhi for adhering to a narrative that only Hasina’s leadership ensures stability in Bangladesh.

He urged India to move beyond this perspective and focus on a more balanced view of regional politics.

The interim leader also addressed concerns over violence against Hindu minorities in Bangladesh, suggesting that claims of targeted attacks are being exaggerated for political reasons.

He stressed the need for improved cooperation between Bangladesh and India to stabilize and enhance their bilateral relations.
