Former Republican Representative Liz Cheney of Wyoming announced on Wednesday that she will vote for Democratic presidential nominee Kamala Harris in the upcoming election, citing concerns over the "danger" posed by Donald Trump.

Speaking at Duke University, Cheney, a longtime critic of Trump, said her decision was based on her commitment to the Constitution and warned against writing in candidates' names, especially in swing states like North Carolina.

She emphasized that her decision comes after careful consideration, particularly as someone who identifies as a conservative and values the Constitution.

Cheney, who served in Congress from 2017 to 2023 and is the daughter of former Vice President Dick Cheney, has been outspoken in her opposition to Trump, especially after the January 6, 2021, attack on the US Capitol.

She voted to impeach him and later served as vice chair of the House select committee investigating the Capitol riot.
