TANDLIANWALA:

Three police personnel have been suspended and an inquiry against them ordered after an audio leak related to the arrest of a drug dealer.

According to sources, the personnel deputed at the Jaranwala city police station had arrested Bilal with 25 grams of hashish on Tuesday. They allegedly called a suspected drug peddling ringleader, Zubair, and demanded money for releasing the man.

They reportedly said that seizure of 900 grams of hashish from Bilal would be recorded and the "fee" for releasing him would be Rs200,000. As many as 20 phone calls were made between the policemen and Zubair. The audio of some of these calls was leaked.

The CPO suspended guard Shehzad, Constable Atiq and another employee, Naeem, appointing Jaranwala SP Abid Hussain Zafar as the inquiry officer.

The police had not registered a case against the arrested suspect all night.
