DG Khan administration urged to be ready for floods, landslides

Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has put all relevant departments on high alert in view of the fear of urban flooding due to heavy rains.

She directed the Dera Ghazi Khan administration to remain ready to cope with floods and landslides in the Sulaiman range.

The chief minister directed the authorities concerned to ensure drainage of rainwater as soon as possible.

She said, "Arrangements should be made for early drainage of rainwater from low-lying areas of all cities, including Lahore. Rainwater should not be visible on roads and streets for a long time, all resources should be utilised."

Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz directed the district administrations, Provincial Disaster Management Authority, Rescue 1122 and other relevant organisations to remain alert to deal with any emergency situation.

She also directed traffic wardens to maintain smooth flow of traffic during rain.

Meanwhile, chairing a review meeting on matters related to the Punjab Skills Development Fund, Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif said the youth would be trained in modern market-driven technologies to excel in the global job market.

"Through the Punjab Skills Development Fund, youth will be guided on the path of financial independence. Talented youth is a valuable asset of any country," she said.

The chief minister was informed during a briefing that the youth would be given information technology skills and on-job training through the fund. She was also apprised of the roadmap of the Punjab Skills Development Fund in this regard.

She was informed that the Chief Minister Internship Programme had been launched in Punjab with admission to courses for the internships and IT skills based on merit for youth.
