An inquest into the death of Steve Dymond, who passed away seven days after appearing on The Jeremy Kyle Show, has revealed the distress he felt following his appearance on the program. Dymond, 63, was found dead at his home in Portsmouth, Hampshire, in May 2019 after taking a lie detector test on the show, where he was accused of cheating on his ex-fiancée, Jane Callaghan. The episode was never aired.

During the inquest at Winchester Coroner's Court, Dymond's son, Carl Woolley, testified that his father felt "thrown under a bus" and "cast as a liar" by the show. According to Woolley, his father was deeply upset after the recording, telling him that host Jeremy Kyle "egged on" the audience to boo him and that he was portrayed negatively before he even had a chance to speak.

"My father was crying as he told me he had been on The Jeremy Kyle Show and that he had been deemed a liar right from the start," Woolley stated. "He said he had been 'taken for a mug' and 'pounced on' by the presenter."

Woolley also described how his father struggled in the days following the show, calling him up to six times a day. Despite receiving some support from the show's aftercare team, Dymond continued to express his distress over how he was treated on the program.

In a pen portrait read out in court, Dymond's brother, Leslie, described him as a "brave" man who had served as a dedicated RNLI crew member involved in dangerous sea rescues. Leslie also recounted how Steve was deeply affected by the lie detector results, which he believed were inaccurate, and by the negative treatment he received from the show's host and audience.

The inquest is ongoing, with further details expected to emerge about the circumstances leading to Dymond's tragic death.
